John W. Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst (Image: A. Schreyer)

The panorama viewer on this page documents a specific time during mid-construction of the John W. Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst. This mass timber building houses our academic program (BCT) and my office, among many other functions. It was also one of the first mass timber academic buildings in the US and is a superb example for this type of construction. You can find out more about this project on our ODB page on the BCT site.

I took many 360-degree panorama images on the construction site with a common two-lens 360-degree camera (an LG R-105). Those were then assembled into several collections using the Marzipano 360-degree viewer. What you can see embedded here packages those collections into a single viewer where you can browse everything by floor and select various spaces in the building.

This is a great way to document and experience a construction site and its progress, which is why various companies commonly offer such documentation as a service. For anyone learning about construction, however, this is a convenient, clean and safe way to observe a site without actually being there.

Interactive ODB Panorama Viewer

This interactive viewer displays 360-degree panoramas of the John W. Olver Design Building construction on the UMass Amherst campus. All images were taken in Summer 2016. You can select floors/locations at the top of the viewer and individual panoramas using the menu at the left.

You can alternatively open this viewer in its own tab and browse full-screen. This viewer can also be installed as a web app by selecting “Add to Home Screen” (or similar) from your browser menu.
